FSSAI Registration
Set up under Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is an agency of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. The agency is responsible for the protection and promotion of public health by continuous inspection and regulation of food safety.


Headquartered in New Delhi, the agency has 8 more regional offices located in Delhi, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Guwahati, Mumbai, Kolkata, Cochin and Chennai. In addition, it has 4 referral laboratories and 72 local laboratories located throughout India. The primary objective of FSSAI is to lay down science based standards for articles of food and to regulate their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import to ensure availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption.

    Registration provides notice to the world of the copyright holder's claim of rights, preventing an infringer from claiming that he used the work innocently, without knowledge of the creator's existing interests.

    This license is a basic step for obtaining permission for starting a food business in India. Every eligible food operator is required to take before string any food business in India.
    The DGFT has provided online filing facility for obtaining IEC and other authorizations. Applications which are complete in all respects are normally disposed of within two days. For practical purposes, you can provide for a week’s time (after factoring in the time required to make any changes in case your initial application is incomplete in some respect).
    Trusts are registered using a document called TRUST DEED. This document contains all the information about the Trust. Along with these papers you would need to attach a Non-Judicial stamp paper. All the Trustees and witnesses will have to signatures on the Trust Deed. For registering a trust you need minimum two trustees. You can decide the maximum number of trustees and this number must be mentioned in the trust deed. A person who creates a trust is called the settlor, the person to whom the property is transferred on trust is called a trustee and the person for whose benefit the property is transferred is called the beneficiary are required to mention in trust deed.
    As per the Society Registration Act 1860 similar & resemblance of name with existing registered society is not permitted. The Name proposed should not suggest or be calculated to suggest the patronage of the Government of India or the Government of State or connection with any legal authority under any law for the time being in force. Selecting the name of the proposed Society and getting it approved by the Registrar of the concerned district is the first step.
    The below are the documents mentioned in FAQ’s on FSSAI license:
  • FSSAI Registration – about 3-5 documents are required.
  • FSSAI State/Central License – about 15-20 documents are required.
  • There will be different license issued under FSSA as requirement of each product is different. So in the same premises if license is being taken for processing of meat, milk & fruits & vegetables, there will be a different license as it will be done in separate portions & businesses are not connected.

    However, in case there is fruit & vegetable processing & godown/ store along with it, since these are connected activities, one license is applicable.
    With the new law became effective last year, it becomes absolutely mandatory for every food business operator to register themselves under FSSAI or obtain a license.

These elements include programs, plans, policies, procedures, practices, processes, goals, objectives, methods, controls, roles, responsibilities, relationships, documents, records, and resources.
